Chapter Ten
Tate
Tate saw Jaden and Caspian return the night before. He’d seen the satisfied smirks on both of their faces and knew what it meant. A hot jealousy made his heart pound a little harder.
Normally, he wouldn’t give a fuck. If one of his friends got to an Omega first, he’d let it go and find another. He couldn’t let this go.
Tate had to wonder if Caspian had mesmerized him somehow. He couldn’t believe how upset it made him that Jaden had fucked Cas. The Omega was supposed to be his. He just knew it. Tate had never believed in fated mates before he met Cas, but now he felt like one of his best friends in the world had taken his mate away. All he could do was take deep, calming breaths and try to rationalize what was happening. Was it witchcraft? Was Caspian trying to drive them all crazy.
Caspian had gotten up at dawn to take a shower and wash off the seawater from his “swim” the night before. Jaden had said he would stand guard.
“Of course you will,” Tate snapped, but the discussion ended there.
Now it was just Xavier and Tate in the cabin. Xavier was busy fixing something in the kitchen while Tate paced the living room floor.
“Do you know anything about mer people beyond what Jaden told us?” Tate asked Xavier. “Like, do they have any powers to bewitch people?”
“The mythology says they are related to sirens, but I don’t know too much beyond that,” Xavier said. “Do you know what happened between the two of them last night?” Xavier sounded pissed. Tate wasn’t used to hearing his friend get upset about things.
“Yeah, man. I do,” Tate said.
Jaden walked through the back door of the cabin, and it was obvious to Xavier and Tate that he must have heard what they were discussing.
“I’m not going to apologize for wanting him or getting him,” Jaden said matter-of-factly.
“Well, I’m not either,” Tate said. “I know there is supposed to be some sort of Bro Code in place here, but I want Caspian too. I’m not going to just give him up.”
“I actually feel the same way,” Xavier added. “I can’t just let Caspian go. These feelings are too real.”
“Look, I get how you guys feel, but he can’t be mate to all of us, and I know he’s mine. It’s just not possible,” Jaden said. “Right?”
“He’s mine,” Tate said. “And you stole him. I’m not sure what you did, but it was wrong, Jaden.”
Just then, Caspian edged his way in the back door. He’d been standing just outside, listening.
“I’m sorry, guys,” Caspian said. “I didn’t mean to cause you to fight. I don’t want you to be mad at each other over me.” Tears began to well in his eyes. “I’m sorry,” he said again before he moved through the cabin and sprinted out the front door.
Caspian ran down the beach and disappeared into the vegetation lining the edge of the sand. Jaden and Tate took off after him.
